Star Student February 2019: David Gillies

Personal Tutor: Robert Law

Having gone straight to work after college and then changing careers after I lost a job in the financial sector at the start of the banking crash to pursue a (highly successful) career in international motor racing as pit crew, I’ve long felt my CV never truly reflected by academic capabilities. I’m now looking at a further career change back to finance and the opportunity to study AAT via distance learning has and will open previously closed doors to me whilst allowing me to study at a pace that suits me. My target of completing all three AAT levels within 18 months at distinction level remains an achievable target and will be able to help me transition back into ‘the real world’ at some point in the near future.

I’m thoroughly enjoying my time studying, and with the continued support of my tutor Robert and the accountancy learning team, I (Shockingly) look forward to each exam and then building towards a future that will include further studying in finance and accounting and hopefully a successful career!

I nominated David for star student because he started studies at the beginning of 2018 and by the end of the year he had completed levels 2 and 3, with distinctions and passed two level 4 exams with 90%+ pass marks. He has shown a determination not just to succeed, but succeed at the highest standard.
