Star Student April 2025: Ben Watt

Personal Tutor: Emily

After completing my A-levels in 2022, I joined Westcotts Chartered Accountants as an Apprentice Accounting Technician and quickly realised it was certainly the right route into the profession for me. Whilst studying at Accountancy Learning, I have benefited from excellent learning materials and tutor support through the weekly drop-in sessions. My tutor, Emily, is incredibly supportive, assisting me with the coursework element of the apprenticeship and is always quick to respond to any queries I may have on the more complex areas of the studies. I am aiming to complete AAT Level 4 by the summer and hope to start chartered studies in the autumn.

Outside of work and studies, I am also a member of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team (Tavistock), which I find rewarding. Westcotts are really supportive of my voluntary contributions to the team, allowing me to attend callouts around the clock, for which I am very grateful. I joined the team in 2024 and since have qualified as a full member and have specialised in Swift-water Rescue. This means I can go from preparing a set of accounts for a client to rescuing a casualty on the middle of Dartmoor!

Ben has been my student from his level 2 bookkeeping right through to his level 4 studies. Throughout this time, Ben has been an exceptional student, always taking accountability for his studies and ensuring that he is progressing at a good pace. We have regularly seen Ben at our Plymouth college days, where he worked well with his fellow students, often helping them out when needed. Ben has managed this alongside his job role, and whilst volunteering for mountain rescue, and his other numerous hobbies (I honestly don’t know how he manages it all).
