Star Student October 2025: Maria Isnenghi

Personal Tutor: Amy Hassall

After working in hospitality and retail for a few years, I decided I wanted to find a career I could stick with for life, and accountancy seemed like a good choice. I was interested in an apprenticeship, as working and studying at the same time would give me the chance to grow and apply my new knowledge and skills in both areas.

I joined PKF Francis Clark in August 2022 as a trainee accounts assistant in the audit team and completed my AAT Level 3 diploma with a different provider.

I started my AAT Level 4 with Accountancy Learning in March 2024 and found such a positive and supportive environment. My tutor, Amy, has been brilliant in ensuring I was exam-ready, supporting me, and believing in me every step of the way.

I can see how this different approach to studying, compared to what I was used to, has benefitted me and contributed to my success.

I will be taking my AAT Level 4 Synoptic exam in a few days and am excited for all that is to come.

I have the pleasure of teaching a truly dedicated and hardworking student. Originally from Italy, English is not her first language, and she initially found Level 3 challenging with a different provider. It has been wonderful to see her confidence grow since March last year. With support from Support Connect and extra time in her exams, she consistently works incredibly hard. She regularly achieves marks in the 70% range and has passed all but one exam on her first attempt. In her first audit exam, she struggled with second-guessing herself and changing answers at the last minute. We worked on techniques to overcome this, and on her second attempt, she achieved over 85% for AAAA. Her confidence at work is also growing, and she is becoming increasingly effective on site with clients during audits. This progress is evident in our drop-in sessions, where she actively participates in discussions, sharing her experience and insights with colleagues and Level 3 students alike. She has just passed AMAC, bringing her close to completing Level 4, with only the synoptic assessment and PD remaining. Her portfolio is exceptionally well written, reflecting her commitment to understanding every topic, even challenging areas like algebra in AMAC, which she initially found intimidating. Overall, she is a brilliant, persevering student whose dedication and hard work continue to impress.
