Alfie is an excellent apprentice who has had a great experience with Keys Group this past year. He started as a student at one of the Keys Group special schools. He was studying business GCSE and had shown an interest in accounting. By chance one day he met the CEO of Keys Group at his school and mentioned that he would like to be a chartered accountant one day. Keys group then made the apprenticeship happen. Alfie has an EHCP with a diagnosis of ASD, he struggles to socialise with new people, displaying signs of anxiety when put into new situations. His development across his apprenticeship has been remarkable. He has moved around different departments within Keys Group, meeting new people and gaining experience in financial accounting, management accounting, asset management and tax. Often when he moved teams, his colleagues were sad to see him go. He is valued member of the finance team. And all of this has been from his bedroom or the reception office at his school. In his studies and apprenticeship activities, Alfie has been a model student who has enjoyed the structure of Alys deadlines and linear nature of Moodle. To support his learning Alfie was given two study days each week and had twice weekly catch ups with me. This was valuable in managing any possibility of overload and overwhelm. He has gained high grades consistently. He is a polite, conscientious apprentice who is a delight to meet with, asks relevant questions and as a great sense of humour. He is ably supported by his dog Teddy. Alfie is a deserving winner of Star Student.
