Star Student July 2019: Caitlin Churchward

Personal Tutor: Jenna

Upon finishing my GCSE’s I was excited to move on from full-time education and was interested in the apprenticeship root whereby I could gain a new qualification as well as gain work experience.

I was employed by Total Repair Service Ltd a building contractor who specialises in insurance Repairs. They offered me an accountancy apprenticeship and the chance to work alongside Bernadette the company secretary which helped me gain responsibility and trust in my work environment.

I joined Accountancy learning In September 2016 and have not looked back!

Accountancy Learning has provided me with both the independence to work to my own schedule and capability as well as offer the support of my Tutor Jenna when I have struggled.

I have now completed my professional synoptic and am awaiting my results and have completed my portfolio with a competent result from the AAT. Without the support that I have received, I really don’t believe I would have had the motivation to push through those difficult units so I am extremely grateful for my tutors to help and persistence.

I wanted to complete my portfolio before I started to prepare for my professional synoptic so that I had no distractions upon my synoptic studies and revision. Therefore I prepared my reflective statements at the end of each module refereeing them back to the AAT portfolio standards. This meant once I had completed all of my modules I only had to produce a final report combining elements of each of the reflective statements. I felt that this would help me avoid any distractions from revising the professional units.

Upon starting my AAT I was determined to complete the AAT Qualification and be finished.

I am now looking at whether to continue and take additional AAT units and possibly progress onto CIMA.

Caitlin has been studying with us since September 2016 and has been my student for a lot of this time. She has shown dedication to her studies and kept me entertained with her stories about her revision posters and how she has plastered these around her office and bedroom walls. Whilst working on the professional level, she ensured she was using her Individual Learning Plan to keep her focused on juggling both her AAT studies and portfolio for the Apprenticeship. As soon as an AAT exam was complete she would spend her next study session getting her reflections up to date, building the evidence and asking for advice and feedback. Caitlin has continually showed her commitment to studies and along with her employer they purchased further texts to give her more practice in the synoptic build up…she sat her exam last week and she is already thinking about the next stage and debating another AAT optional module!
