Star Student April 2021: Roxanne Burness-Moakes

Personal Tutor: Ros

I began studying AAT Level 2 in 2019 alongside my job as a special needs teacher, studying in the evenings and taking my exams after school. Having taught through the first UK lockdown in 2020, I decided to take a leap of faith and leave teaching after ten years in the profession. I was lucky enough to secure a job in a local chartered accountants practice, enabling me to continue my studies through the ACA Level 7 Apprenticeship with Accountancy Learning. The last six months have been a steep learning curve as I have two children which has meant I have had to juggle home schooling during the most recent lockdown, working full time and studying for my exams. Despite this, I have managed to keep on top of my studies and I completed my last Certificate Level exam last month.

Roxanne has shown a high level of determination over the past few months juggling a new job, a change of career and studying for her ACA studies all in the context of Covid 19 lockdowns and home schooling. Despite dealing with home schooling she has continued to sit an average of one exam per month, passing all of them.
