Start Your Level 4 Journey Your Way

If you’ve been thinking about progressing to AAT Level 4, you may already have seen that the updated AAT Level 4 qualification launches in September 2026.

AAT reviews and updates its qualifications every few years to reflect changes in the accounting profession, helping to ensure students develop the skills employers are looking for.

Although the official launch isn’t until September, when AAT student registrations and assessments become available, there’s some exciting news. The new AAT Level 4 Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians (PAT) is now available to enrol on with Accountancy Learning.

That means you can enrol today, gain immediate access to your online learning materials and, if you’d like to, start studying before the qualification officially launches.

What’s changing with the new AAT Level 4?

One of the biggest changes to the new AAT Level 4 qualification is the introduction of fully computer-based assessments. Designed to reflect real workplace tasks, the new exams focus on applying knowledge through more interactive question types, with faster results for computer-marked assessments and the removal of traditional long-form written questions.

If you would like to find out more about all the changes, we wrote a detailed blog a couple of months ago that explains everything you need to know. You can read our blog here:

Do I have to wait until September to start on the new Level 4? Is there any benefit of enrolling early?

The short answer is No. Although the qualification officially launches on 1 September 2026, you can enrol now and gain immediate access to your online learning materials.

Whether you decide to start studying straight away or wait until September is entirely up to you. By enrolling early you’ll benefit from:

  • Immediate access to the online learning materials, allowing you to start studying straight away if you wish.
  • The opportunity to speak with your tutor, if you’ve chosen one of our Tutor Supported packages, and prepare for the official course launch.
  • Exclusive early bird discounts, available until 1 September
  • £150 off our Tutor Supported and Tutor Supported PLUS packages.
  • £50 off our Self-Study package.

Perhaps the biggest benefit is that your official course doesn’t begin until 1 September.

This means that any studying you choose to do before then is simply extra study time at no additional cost.

If you’d rather wait until September, that’s absolutely fine too. You can still enrol now, secure the early bird discount and start whenever you’re ready.

For students choosing one of our Tutor Supported packages, your tutor can introduce themselves before September and help you prepare. Formal teaching and tutor support will begin once the qualification officially launches, in line with AAT requirements.

Which study option is right for me?

Whether you prefer studying independently or having regular guidance, we have a study option to suit you.

Our Self-Study package is ideal if you’re confident learning on your own and want maximum flexibility. Unlike many providers, our Self-Study package offers much more than just textbooks. You’ll become an official Accountancy Learning student with access to our full online learning platform, including course materials, videos, practice questions and mock assessments with answers. The only difference is that you won’t have a tutor available to answer questions, mark your work or provide feedback.

If you’d prefer extra support, our Tutor Supported packages include everything in the Self-Study option, plus access to an experienced tutor who can answer your questions, mark your work, provide feedback and help keep your studies on track.

Whichever option you choose, you’ll study exactly the same qualification using the same learning materials. The only difference is the level of support, allowing you to choose the package that best suits your learning style, budget and circumstances.

Ready for Your Next Step?

If you’re planning to progress to AAT Level 4, there’s no need to wait until September.

You can enrol now, take advantage of our early bird discount and decide whether you’d like to start studying straight away or wait until the official launch.

Whether you decide to start studying straight away or wait until September, you’ll be one of the first students studying the brand-new qualification.

If you’re unsure which study option is right for you, we’re always happy to help.

If you’re ready to take the next step, explore our AAT Level 4 study options or get in touch with our team. We’ll be happy to help you choose the package that’s right for you and answer any questions you may have.
