Accountancy Apprenticeships: If you are aged 16-23, a non-graduate, and employed in an accounting environment for 30+ hours per week, then you could be eligible for Apprenticeship funding. For those aged 16-18 this should cover the full cost of the course, for those aged 19-23 an employer contribution is required.
Although traditionally undertaken via a day release course, we have a growing number of students enrolling on our Flexible Apprenticeship programme, where classroom attendance is replaced by regular site visits for learner reviews and 1:1 tutor support, supplemented by our standard distance learning package. Click here for a learner factsheet and a separate employer factsheet that you might like to pass on to your employer.
Although you will need to study in your own time, you may find that your employer will allow you to take time out in the office each week to study. For example, we have employers who allow:
- every Thursday (where students previously attended day release class)
- ½ day a week (where students previously attended fortnightly workshops)
- no office time (where students previously attended evening classes)
Because there is no set course timetable, apprentices can start their course at any time. They can also take their exams when they are ready, not when a class timetable tells them to. For most of our apprentices, this means ahead of their original planned date. Although the government now require that all Apprenticeships must last at least 12 months, for those of our learners who complete their AAT exams earlier than this, we allow them to start studying their next level before the end of the current apprenticeship.
When we perform our site visits, we are able to provide 1:1 tutor guidance, often working through feedback on progress tests submitted since our last visit. This, with the tutor contact in-between visits, often means that apprentices get more 1:1 support than they would on a traditional classroom based course. They can also work at their own pace, not the pace of the rest of the class.
