Flexible Apprenticeships with Blended Learning may be the answer for North Devon’s small and micro businesses
Every business needs to prepare annual accounts and maintain accounting records during the year. Not normally their favourite task! However, someone’s got to do it. Many small businesses won’t need to take on someone just to “keep the books”; they will want them to help across a range of roles in the office. Also, having got that person, they won’t want to lose them for a day a week to college. This may well put off businesses from taking on their first apprentice.
However – there may now be a solution to this problem. Accountancy Learning Ltd are collaborating with Petroc in delivering a Flexible Apprenticeship with Blended Learning – as an alternative to attending the college’s day release programmes.
Under this programme, Accountancy Learning visit apprentices in the workplace for monthly tutorials and learner reviews. In between times, apprentices have access to a mass of learning materials, both traditional and on-line, and have access to their personal tutor throughout the week from 8.30am to 9.30pm. Their personal tutor monitors progress and nag contacts apprentices regularly to make sure they are making good progress. For those aged 16-18 the course is free through the Apprenticeship scheme. If a business has not employed an apprentice over the last year, they may also be eligible for a grant of £1,500 per apprentice they recruit.
